Oily Skin

Oily skin is characterised by an overproduction of sebum, the skin’s natural oil. This excess oil can leave the skin looking shiny, particularly in the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin), and can contribute to clogged pores, blackheads, and acne. People with oily skin often notice enlarged pores, which can make the skin texture appear uneven. Factors such as genetics, hormones, diet, and stress levels play a significant role in determining sebum production.

One of the challenges of oily skin is maintaining a balance between controlling excess oil and ensuring the skin remains hydrated. Over-cleansing or using harsh products can strip the skin of its natural oils, which may trigger an increase in sebum production as the skin tries to compensate for the loss. Proper care includes using gentle, oil-free cleansers that regulate sebum without drying out the skin.

Exfoliation is crucial for oily skin as it helps remove dead skin cells that can clog pores and lead to breakouts. Incorporating products with ingredients like salicylic acid or niacinamide can reduce oiliness, minimise pore appearance, and improve skin texture. Moisturising is still essential, as skipping this step can lead to dehydration, causing the skin to produce even more oil. With the right products and routine, oily skin can be managed effectively, reducing shine and preventing common issues.
